Your privacy matters

Funeral Guestbook is built by funeral.link. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our iPad guestbook app and related services. We believe in transparency and keeping things simple.

What we collect

When a guest signs the guestbook at a memorial service, the app collects:

• Handwritten entries — your signature and any written message, captured via Apple PencilKit on the iPad
• Contact information — name, phone number, email address, and mailing address as written in the guestbook
• Optional preferences — such as whether you are interested in funeral pre-planning information
• Device information — basic device identifiers and app version for troubleshooting and analytics
• Usage data — timestamps, memorial association, and interaction patterns within the app

How AI processes your data

We use AI to transcribe handwritten guestbook entries into structured text. When you sign the guestbook, an image of your handwriting is sent to our AI provider for processing. The AI extracts your name, phone number, email, and address from what you wrote.

Your entries are not used to train AI models. The transcription happens in seconds and the results are stored alongside your original handwritten image.

How we share your data

Your guestbook entry is shared with the funeral home that operates the memorial you signed. This is the core purpose of the app — helping funeral homes maintain connections with the families and communities they serve.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or unrelated third parties. Beyond the funeral home and our AI transcription provider, your data is only shared when required by law.

Data storage and security

Guestbook entries are stored securely on our servers. Handwritten entry images are stored in encrypted cloud storage. We use HTTPS for all data transmission and follow industry-standard security practices.

When the iPad is offline, entries are stored locally on the device and synced automatically when a connection is restored. Local data is cleared from the device after successful sync.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Request access to the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your guestbook entry and associated data
• Withdraw consent for data processing at any time

Children's privacy

Funeral Guestbook is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child signs the guestbook at a memorial service, the entry is treated the same as any other — shared only with the funeral home operating the service. If you believe a child's information has been collected and you would like it removed, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify funeral home partners directly.
